The Society was formed in 1993 through the merger of the Emergency Planning Association and the County Emergency Planning Officers Society. Its aims are to foster effective emergency planning and management in the United Kingdom and to promote the professional interests of its members, who include representatives of the emergency services, local and central government, the health services, industry, consultants, and voluntary organizations. It is active in the areas of training, professional development, networking, representation, and publications.
